Let's look at the Group task first:
Learning Community Design
In small groups you will be required to integrate the experiences, models and concepts from the subject to design a model for an e-Learning community.
The design will outline the following sections:

  • A brief outline of the key features of the e-Learning community
  • A justification for considering the proposed e-Learning community as a collective learning opportunity

a. Strategic alignment and the impact of learning objective
b. Why the community is needed
c. What will be done, how, and when
d. The benefits and costs

  • Educational rationale for the design elements, informed by your experiences in communities and readings in this subje

a. Target groups
b. Systematic presentation of learning structure
c. Social learning
d. Providing necessary web tools on E-learning

  • A storyboard or blueprint that represents the e-Learning community design in sufficient detail that the structure and functions are clearly apparent.

The group work component will be presented on a wiki where it will be explicit which aspects of work each group participant has contributed to.
Written academic standards, including appropriate referencing (APA style and hyperlinks to online works); clear and logical development of ideas and argument; appropriate language style and; grammatical and spelling accuracy will be expected.

NB: Your are not writing any content - just designing a concept framework.

Free software like Vue or Inspiration (has a 30 day free trial) should be used - or an online application.
The storyboard must be either embedded into the wiki page as a graphic or linked to if it's an online application.

The Presentation:
Each group will present their designs on 9 October 2010
15 minutes + 5 minutes questions.
It's an overview explanation of your design - and also an opportunity to receive feedback from others.
You may wish to amend or review some aspects based on this...
The reviewed, finalized wiki page is due 16 October 2010

Part II - Individual task
Approx. 1000 words
A written reflection of the group process in Part I that addresses the following:

  • A description and analysis of the group learning process
  • Synthesis of readings and research from this subject
  • A reflection of how this process can further inform your experiences of learning communities

The reflection will be presented as a separate, static page on the student’s weblog. Written academic standards, including appropriate referencing (APA Reference style and hyperlinks to online works); clear and logical development of ideas and argument; appropriate language style and; grammatical and spelling accuracy will be expected.
